Amazon Launches Computer Education Program for Underprivileged Youth

  • Amazon will fund both introductory and Advanced Placement (AP) classes across all five NYC boroughs, including over 30 schools near its new headquarters, Long Island City, Queens.
  • The courses will be supported by the Amazon Future Engineer program, whose stated goal is to bring over 10 million kids to computer science per year, and fund computer science courses for over 100,000 underprivileged kids in 2,000 low-income high schools in the U.S. It also awards 100 students per year with four-year $10,000 scholarships and offers internships at Amazon.

Saudi Arabia, UAE to Launch First Common Digital Currency ‘Aber’

  • Saudi Arabia’s and the United Arab Emirates’ (UAB) central banks have teamed up to test a new cryptocurrency.
  • The Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) and the United Arab Emirates Central Bank (UAECB) clarified that one of the objectives of launching the common digital currency project “Aber” is for use in financial settlements between Saudi Arabia and UAE through Blockchains and Distributed Ledgers technologie.

Engine-less Train 18 named as Vande Bharat Express

  • The train is set to run between Delhi and Varanasi at a maximum speed of 160kmph.
  • It is a 16-coach train, built in 18 months at a cost of ₹97 crore by the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai.
  •  It’s also the first locomotive-less train in the country.
  • The fully air-conditioned train will stop at Kanpur and Allahabad and will have two executive chair cars.

Google launches new certification courses for cloud developers

  Google launched of four new certification and training programs for cloud developers and engineers: Professional Cloud DeveloperProfessional Cloud Network Engineer (beta) and Professional Cloud Security Engineer (beta), as well as a new G Suite certification.

The G Suite certification stands out a bit because it’s cheaper ($75) and far less technical, but as Google notes, the overall idea here is to address the “cloud skills crisis.”
